creppie: If you have a cash account with no cash, but own stock, once you sell that stock, you need to wait three day to use the cash from the sale IF you just bought it and tried to flip it ie: (a day traded). BUT, if you owned the stock longer than 3 days, once you sell it, you would be able to use the cash right away. If you get the cash and use it all to by a stock and sell it again, you can't use the cash from the sale for 3 days.


Daytrading rules do not apply to cash accounts so you can day trade all you want as long as you have enough cash in the account to do so. You just need to wait 3 days from the date of purchase to see any cash after you sell it.
