Tkanks lodas. I agree, absolutely NO reason (at least that we know of), NO negative news, NO changed plans regarding the planned increase in corporate tax rate, mortgage rate stable, but some day the 4.9 million shorts will finally have to cover IMO if tangible book value rises from quarter to quarter, as the BOD said

Q1 earnings call transcript (04/29/21): https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2021/04/30/mr-cooper-group-inc-coop-q1-2021-earnings-call-tra/

...almost under any scenario, tangible book is going to grow to 40 or more just on the basis of consensus earnings absence from massive mark-to-market impact, negative mark-to-market impact, which I don't think anyone expects, it doesn't consider further positive mark-to-market.

So what should shorts do? Take the risk that tangible book value grows from quarter to quarter, or cover as soon as possible?!?

A second big problem for shorts:
From August 1st COOP can buy back up to 50% of their outstanding shared, which should reduce the free float and increase the PPS.

Yourt post:

JWW....todays stock action in coop is different from other times when the MM take it down....before today, the short sellers seemed to game the stock for profits in the morning, by taking the price down, then reversing and covering at the close to book their daily profits... I watch the action during the day trading, and around mid morning the stock price recovers.... today, however, the MM keep suppressing the price and don't seem to want it to recover... this would be a sign that they really intend to close those millions of short shares before some big news hits the wires...the stock market in general seems ok... the NASDQ 100 is not down too much, with the FAANG stocks trying to make a recovery...nothing of any consequence should have moved coop to suffer such a serious fall off in price this morning... so, I think the short sellers are serious this time around.....in closing their short positions...
