I may be wrong but it should be rather simple to output the sat to a tape recorder and you can record on tape as much as you wanted. So that is still doable.

I think they don't like digital recording because unlike a tape you can store hundreds, perhaps even thousands of minutes worth of recordings on a single device rather easily. Where a tape is only good for 90 minutes.
