I take the point, but why would Apple pay double or triple for the part to make it scuff-proof when scuffs don’t affect the product’s effectiveness and scuffs do make someone eventually want to buy more of the product simply because of looks?

I think the best argument for LM is not scuffs but me-only functionality. Inductive charging, for example. Or weight or thinness. Or the requirement to form in one step a ruthlessly complex shape.. we all know the benefits of LM.

There will be no scuff-gate. This won’t affect the sales of airtags in the least. As I mention above it could lead to more over time, as people who care about scuffs buy a new one every 6-12 months and give their used trackers to kids or friends who find they like them.
