P.S. Report from CTIA Wireless
A subject I discussed in my original composition (the one I lost when I accidentally closed my browser), but omitted in my final report, was the Nokia/mobile TCG connection.
Well, there was no visible connection except that Nokia is in the TCG mobile work group. The Nokia rep confirmed that there was no demo product available and to the best of her knowledge not even a prototype under development. TCG mobile group was formed in June 2003, so it's early and standards are merely forming. I suggested that a TPM would be a logical choice to implement in mobile devices and of course she agreed with this obvious assertion. After all, the TPM is TCG's hardware device of choice so what else would it be? We agreed that Trusted Computing is inevitable on mobile platforms.
The TCG attendance at CTIA Wireless was almost a paradox with no wireless TCG devices to show. TCG reps conceded that one purpose of the show was to solicit interest from wireless industry players in the TCG mobile initiative...there was even a package with application for membership.
So, the TCG mobile is a work in progess...early stage.
On a more positive note, the TCG reps offered that another, if not principle, purpose of the TCG exhibit was to display the TCG PC implementation. Apparently events like CTIA Wireless provide a much needed opportunity for TCG to showcase their implementations, since this is all so new. TCG will also be at the RSA Europe in Amsterdam Nov. 3-6. I have an e-mail into IR to confirm if Wave will be there. I assume that ETS will be there even if it takes a non-Wave staffer to demo it.
What is any TCG demo without Wave!
