Some Republicans are smart enough to know the Norman conquest was a battle between Germans and Scandinavians. Where does the 'Nor' in Norman come from?

And while the Normans did conquer "Angle Land" it could be well argued that it was the Normans who were ultimately assimilated into Anglo/Saxon culture. English is a Germanic language with a tincture of Romance and very little Norse. And Germans have "ruled" England at least since the Hanovers.
