I'll be interested to see what they actually end up replacing. (Rodent damage seems to normally be limited to the low voltage/signaling wires. I think yours is the first case where I have heard the HV wiring getting chewed on.)



A rodent chewing on HV line would fry if exposed. Also the OP said it appears battery intact but never provided full update.

Toxic electric smells usually come from the batteries. Shorts from wiring do not usually have a toxic smell that I'm aware of.
