Intel’s press conference conspicuously did not mention photonics despite the potential of photonics and its promise of speed and more data transmission with a transceiver photonics market forecast of $ 45B in 2025. Wonder if the announced R&D partnership with IBM and the promise of a pipeline of silicon innovation would address this important ( photonics) market. Both IBM and Intel have supply partnerships with Global Foundries. To move the industry to co packaging and on board optics in photonics standards the big players need to be aboard.
