And the worst one day %age drop in the history of the DJIA (1987) is hardly noticeable on the chart. But boy, did my stomach drop on that day. Two years later it was back where it was and kept rising steadily until 2000.

Petty much the same thing happened in 2008.

DJIA Closes Above the 14,000 Mark: July 19, 2007 (14,000.41)
DJIA 2009 Bear-Market Low: March 9, 2009 (6,507.04)
DJIA Closes Above the 15,000 Mark: May 7, 2013 (15,056.20)
