When I lived in MA they used to put out stocked birds. They would announce ahead of time where they were being released and on what day. I never hunted those mornings since I had an Irish Setter and didn't want to risk his life with getting shot. Even though I had a bell on his collar. We'd go out late in the afternoon after everyone was gone and actually hunt for a bird. We were working a hedgerow along a stone wall one late afternoon and my dog would not give one spot a rest. I told him Kelly there is no bird there. I put him on a lead dragged him 50 yards away and sure enough he went right back to the spot. I finally got down on my hands and knees and sure enough there was a bird who had gotten shot and crawled under the rocks. Still warm. best bird he and I ever got.
