simply reply to your reply. it was not ready (BMG) and Caterpillar knew it. not a bad move for Caterpillar. BMG was still in its infancy. its the old thing i keep saying and that is new technology takes years to replace old tech for more than one reason.

Before plastic was capable of being molded into anything builders of metal items i am sure said among themselves that they better get ready for many of their items to be made from this new material, meaning plastic and indeed it did over time.

Once a bicycle was all metal and as time passed that plastics were easier and cheaper that is what happened. many items on the bike became plastic.
BMG has a place and it is developing. the train has left the station.
