I remember the '93 bombing like it was yesterday. My brother was visiting and he walked into the PATH station about 10 minutes after the bomb went off. He was so lucky. One of the six individuals who died was killed walking through the turnstile of the PATH train station when a chunk of the ceiling fell on him. He saw a lot of smoke but the fire trucks weren't there yet. So he went back outside and walked uptown to find a train to New Jersey.

I remember it was a cold, lousy day, with leftover snow on the ground. And when I got back to New Jersey, I was struck by the fact that the twin towers were still standing but no lights were on. Had never seen that before. Quite eerie. Later, I got to see the crater where the bomb went off. Gigantic. Half the size of a football field.

When Ramzi Yousef, the architect of the bombing, was captured in Pakistan and flown to the U.S., FBI honcho Irving Picard rode with him in the helicopter taking him to Manhattan and pointed out the twin towers, saying: "See, they're still standing." Yousef's uncle was Khalid Sheik Mohammad, the architect of the 9/11 bombings. By circumstance, Picard was head of the FBI during 9/11.

John O'Neill was head of terrorism at the FBI before he took a job as head of security at the World Trade Center just days before the attacks. O'Neill died on 9/11 when the towers fell.

Funny thing about Yousef. Biggest nose ever. At his first trial, he was charged with plotting to blow up 12 U.S. airliners over the Far East and killing a Japanese man on a test run flight. A flight attendant identified him as the man who was sitting in the same seat where the Japanese man was later blown up. The evidence showed that Ramzi placed the bomb beneath the seat on the first leg of a flight so it would blow up later. When the flight attendant was questioned on the witness stand, she identified Yousef, saying she could never forget such a huge nose.
