Shetlands:

Many years ago, three of us took a backpacking trip N2 the Pasayten Wilderness Area, in Washington's North Cascades. Our camping spot was just below the British Columbia border. 15 miles in and 22 miles out.

We made the 22 miles out hike in one day. We hiked 10 miles up, from 4400', over a 6600' pass and down 12 miles, from 6600' to the trail head at 2800'

We didn't get to the trail head until 10 PM. As we were resting, before setting up camp, a very hippy looking dude came N2 our camp.

"Hey guys! Did you come over the pass?"

"Yep"

|Where did you come from?"

"We've been camped at Three Forks, on the BC border"

"Man! That's where we\re headed, in the morning. We have an 8 horse pack train and we're headed to BC to pick up some goods!"

The next morning I walked through the hippy's camp. There were three of them heading out with their pack train.

It was 8 Shetland ponies! All three of the dudes were tall and skinny. No saddles, just pack frames. Their toes were dragging on the ground.

The funniest sight I've ever seen, in the wild.
