AirPods and AirPods pro are both plastic, both charge inductively, and neither get overly hot or discolored from charting.

I suppose it's also possible that: 4) The SS disk pops off revealing a charging port, or there is a charging port on them that hasn't been yet revealed; or that 5) That the SS disk pops off to reveal a traditional watch battery. Let's make 6) LM, and for the sake of round numbers, make 7) Passive or Active RFID.

Of these options for powering AirTags...

1. SS disk with loop charger that surrounds it.
2. SS disk with magnetic disk that charges from white side
3. SS disk with OTA charging (over the air)
4. SS disk with charing port underneath or on side
5. SS disk with replaceable watch battery underneath
6. LM disk with inductive charging
7. SS disk with RFID

...the best bet is #2 — inductive charging from plastic side providing power for UWB tech.
