The benefit of trageting immutable sites, is that even when the virus mutates, there are still sites on the virus that do NOT mutate. (Hence: Immutable sites) And so by targeting these immutable sites, it raises the chances of killing the virus within the patient, even if it has mutated to a new strain say, the day before it arrived in the host. Correct me if I'm wrong please. So no, it does not stop a virus from mutating. But it is not rendered inneffective if the virus DOES mutate (and likely will)
