Your logic is flawed. The concept that unemployment being high equals a horrible economy with no unnecessary spending has been proven incorrect, as evidenced by the current market, the boom in new vehicle purchases in the US in 2020 & the boom in the camping travel industry (notably travel trailer/5th wheel/RV sales which skyrocketed to the point where sellers had a difficult time holding inventory).

US citizens still have the same mindset they've always had - no matter how bad things get, a vacation somewhere warm and sunny with a drink in my hand sounds nice. Couple that with the current stimulus check & likelihood of another once the new administration is in place, and you have hundreds of millions who are still fully employed, probably didn't need those checks, and now have an unexpected disposable lump sum they're either going to spend on debt or vacation.
