From what I have read, Solid state lithium battery technology will use more lithium hydroxide. It’s easier to make lithium hydroxide from spodumene, but spodumene is more expensive to extract lithium from than brines, nor is it as pure. For brine, the lithium chloride solution has to be made into lithium carbonate first and then into lithium hydroxide.
Lithium-ion technology will continue to improve; I wouldn’t write off them just yet. Tesla hasn’t. It may turn out to be a cheaper alternative than solid state. Regardless of which technology prevails, at least for the foreseeable future, lithium will be a key ingredient. And I believe DLE from brines will be the cheapest way to extract it.
