Take it from my experience... if you are able, I would highly recommend a Roth over any conventional 401k... while you are putting money in, you can afford to pay the taxes up front... when you are getting the money out, you probably can't afford to pay the taxes, plus 1- you don't know what the tax rate will be when you retire, but it probably won't be less than now and 2- any interest you get in a Roth isn't taxable either..
