The video is wrong. The Liquidmetal golf clubs failed as a product for two reasons.

1) They were deemed as non-conforming by the PGA. Unlike the demo in the video where home made test equipment showed no difference between conventional clubs and Liquidmetal golf clubs, the Liquidmetal clubs did drive the ball significantly further than conventional clubs. The PGA found that gave the player using Liquidmetal clubs an unfair advantage.

2) The Liquidmetal clubs were poorly designed, and tended to break at the hosel. (For non-golfers, the hosel is the socket into which the shaft fits into the head of the club.) Here is one anecdote:

I have an old set of liquid metal irons..
2 of my irons the head broke off of the shaft, the other one the head split in half itself.

Back in the day, even before the company went public, the old gang at LQMT thought they could do everything from design to manufacturing and sales. The golf clubs, which were suppose to put the company on the map, were a disaster.

And, no... Steipp had nothing to do with Liquidmetal golf. smile
