I don’t think every pharma measured up well in the vetting process that led to Dr Duffy’s time with NWBO. I also don’t think Linda is in this for an immediate maximum monetary reward but is looking at this longer term. If this is the case then she Is not looking for a bidding war quite yet or possibly at all. I believe she wants this to get to as many patients as possible so her measure for success and goals might be different than that of all investors or those who might be bidding in a bidding war. This is obviously a different picture of her than the one painted by the bears who would paint her as one to sell out to the highest bidder.
Look at the researchers that Linda surrounded herself with including Dr Linda Liau, Dr Ashkan, the folks at Fraunhofer, Dr Bosch, Dr Quiñones and others from Cognate and Flaskworks that created ways to improve production methods on the march to commercialization. She recognized talent and put together an all star team who have dedicated themselves to a higher calling than just making the most money that they can. I believe she sees Merck in somewhat the same way, at least as compared to the other pharmas so a fair look at what each company brings to the table to see what can be worked out without interference I believe would be warranted in her view.
As for Cognate, I don’t think NWBO ever could have fully supported it on it’s own in its early stages or later stages without risking bankruptcy. That’s where Toucan came in and this was also obviously a tool for Linda to maintain control of NWBO and the IP while in the vulnerable development stage. As such it needed to be independent of NWBO and that independence will create huge benefits for shareholders. I made up my mind to give Linda the benefit of the doubt about this issue long ago but not everyone has and I respect that. Linda is a very gifted entrepreneur and I expect all longs will be blessed enormously because of that. Best wishes.
