Yes, and if this "mystery catalyst" can start the process of cold fusion then they can tap into that energy. Otherwise BTU's are measured by the heat release when oxygen is combined. That doesn't change. It's not possible to create a reaction where the product has more energy that the reactants.
Oxygen combines with carbon for a set energy release (results in CO2). Oxygen combines with hydrogen for a set energy release (results in H2O). For a change in product, the same amount of all atoms will still be present and will produce the same amount of heat by burning (again, unless USSE found cold fusion). In addition, for any reaction to proceed, energy must be consumed. How then does USSE end up with more energy in the form of fuel than it started with as soybeans even after it uses some in the catalytic reaction??
