It's not a question of why wouldn't a company buy them out, but the fact that Mr. Cotropia and the gang don't want to be bought out. This is their lifes work and dream. In my opinion they would rather see it through to completion rather than sellout and watch the tech get stashed away in a dusty basement never to be seen again. (because that happens often with life-changing future-altering breakthroughs after being bought out)
