The evidence would be symptomatic relief indicative of improved mitochondrial functon...

The proof would be in long term recovery.

We have evidence, we do not yet have proof.

Example: I am alive... I was close to death this time last year because of combined pulmonary, cardiac and vascular symptoms. I began massive doses of NAC and got better. I gardened all summer and I am not close to death now. I did get worse recently, waking up in the middle of the night with "frozen" ribs. My doctors and PTs could find no cause. I resumed dosing with NAC in the middle of the night because of its short half life and this problem is also going away.

A reasonable conclusion: NAC is treating my mitochondrial issues.

Since I have not yet been able to find a local doctor who treats mitochondrial issues ( specialists at the local University Hospital who treat mitochondrial issues focus on children with genetic and epigenetic issues, I couldn't get an appointment) I will continue to go with what is keeping me alive.

I have an excellent primary doctor now who listens. She says I understand all of this better than she does.
