You think with Apple having LQMT at the end of the carrot they would do some test runs on these frames and see how much better they perform. Maybe the LQMT information is just sitting on some engineering desk in the back office and they forgot about this material. Then one day someone walks in and cleans the desk up and sees LQMT brochures with a few sample frames and says hey lets try this material for a bit.
In my years of work this seems how it is always played out, information from the bottom never makes it up to corporate or is swept under the rug.
