The most important system on any airliner is sitting in the cockpit. As I've always said; any certified plane, needs a pilot who's rated in type and can hand fly the plane under any circumstance. Short of that standard, any airplane , crew and passengers are at risk. IMO, part of the certification process should be confirmation that a rated pilot in type can hand fly the airplane, before issuing an airworthiness certificate, anything less adds substantial risk.
