On whether the HP announcement was significant
I've had some phone calls suggesting the the HP announcement was fluffy -- that complementary doesn't cut it.
I disagree!!! After five years of HP being on the Wave site. Wave is now on the HP site as a Business PC Security Partner
Read that document on the HP site CAREFULLY. I'm sure that HP marketing department read it several times. Note how often it suggests that Wave's stuff ENABLES AND PROVIDES MORE SECURE.
bOLDS ARE MINE.
When used in conjunction with Wave Systems' EMBASSY® Trust Suite, HP's ProtectTools Embedded Security solution enables more secure and seamless file storage and business transactions. The combined solution from Wave Systems and HP provides customers with stronger PC security that is easy to administer and use, by IT staff and end-users alike.[/B]
Wave Systems' Document Manager uses the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) of ProtectTools Embedded Security to provide secure storage and management capabilities for file, folder and drive-level encryption, enhancing the native functionality of HP's solution. This solution easily integrates file encryption into Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Windows Explorer.
What owner of a laptop would not want the ability to easily encrypt ALL the files on an easily stolen machine? I know if I had all my pricing information on my machine, I'd pay $39 not to make that mistake which could be worth millions of dollars to a competitor or customer.
Additionally, ProtectTools Embedded Security is enhanced by Wave Systems' e-SIGN Transaction Management (eTM) Suite™, which ensures the integrity of digitally signed contracts. The eTM suite of services, with SmartSignature® and SmartSAFE™, offers a complete web-based digital signing and document storage solution including digital document creation, digital signatures, and document management and retention. Combining the functionalities of ProtectTools Embedded Security and the eTM Suite enables customers to electronically sign and store legally binding documents. The above isn't a no brainer, but an enterprise manager who doesn't protect his stuff and permit signed agreements by machine to close a deal quickly has no brain!!!
Wave Systems, a leader in the development of infrastructure and services that enable the deployment and management of trusted computing platforms, is headquartered in Lee, MA, with development centers around the U.S. and in France.
This thing is going to grow more slowly than we like, but the potential for growth over the next three years with TPM and beyond with whatever Embassy IP involvement will exist with TCG and/or MSFT boggles the mind. If the turnover rate of computers is now 3-4 years it will take that long for TPM 1.2 an 1.2 to get full traction and then another four years for Longhorn capable machines to get that turnover to ubiquity.
That gets me to 2011....and I'm not going to worry much about that.
If breakeven is ANYTIME in 2004
Things are even better.
