I know of some famous people from the past from the Columbia Engineering School. There was John Ragazzini, who was a Professor of Electrical Engineering. His student Rudolf Kalman of the Kalman Filtering fame became much more famous. I never met them though. I wrote a letter to Kalman wanting to do my PhD under him when he was a faculty member at the University of Florida and he replied. But it so happened that I chose to remain at Iowa. I am glad I did because I eventually married my girl friend from Iowa and she has been a blessing to me all these years.
