I hitched the buckboard and went into town last week. I got a couple of real deal, meal deal $4.99 chickens but as my mega basket appeared to be anemically empty I filled it with other things I hadn't planned on buying.
The Christmas trees are up as well as gifts for children. The store's saving grace is that Halloween decorations and costumes were available as well.
I made chicken ala king. The recipe included mushrooms, diced onion, diced green peppers, pimentos, chicken stock, and a roue that consisted of flour, butter and chicken stock.
The fire continues to flare as it did yesterday but the firefighters have mostly contained the conflagration. A finger of flame is burning in the thin growth on the south slope of an 8,000 foot peak. During the day wisps of smoke drift into the still air like the swirls from a cigarette and at night the area glows eerily orange.
A firefighter who got separated from his crew was found dead. We are profoundly and deeply sorry, and we are grateful for the dedicated work of all the firefighters on land and in the air.
