Initial "Design In" part of the Process

Can anyone comment on what kind of timeline generally (in months) does it take to get "designed in" to a product line?

Jim Marcelli at the LC Micro Investors conference stated something to the effect that they were moving as quickly as they could to get data back to their respective Tier 1 customers. So once they have completed that part, and the customers agrees to use our materials in their own design, how much time is needed for the "design in" part?
