EELfland, In 2004 JR was planning to process tires and make a billion gallons of a "diesel fuel",a "tire gas", and tons of carbon to be used in water filters. The math just did not work. However, the hype is the same now as then.

Electrical generation is not cost effective using fuel from soybeans costing over $1.75 per gallon just to produce. The petroleum industry is beginning to take some action in setting standards for biodiesel quality. JR's biofuel only becomes meaningful when used as a petroleum additive or replacement. The Natchez dog an pony show, had two products mixed together containing who knows what.

The point is, biofuel degrades. However, when mixed with petroleum diesel , biodiesels remain stable. Mix rates from 5% to 20% do not effect engine warranties at present. Biofuel is a new industry requiring standards and then quality control.

USSE scheme is simply too gandiose. A simple step would be to run USSE vehicles on their biofuel and make and sell a few thousand gallon locally . This would shake out the process.
