The Orchid Digital Currency (OXT) enables users to obtain bandwidth over a decentralized VPN. Orchid is provided via a smart-contract connecting sellers of bandwidth to a directory of providers, enabling payment for consumption of bandwidth and limiting fees associated with normal ERC-20 transactions. The Orchid protocol runs on WebRTC allowing users to request access to remote network resources using OXT and the Orchid nanopayments system.

A stake registry and provider directory enables the Orchid app to locate servers in a decentralized environment. Anyone can stake OXT on nodes via the smart contract. These nodes can be selected in proportions relative to the size of OXT staked. Nodes attracting a greater amount of bandwidth on Orchid allow for a larger number of users and revenue generated.
