Quant funds may be in here and dipping their toes for the last few days.

When you see these trades for 2 or 50 or some small number of funds, they do not show on the charts. The charts will not show these odd lot transactions. Sometimes these transactions are due to Market Makers rounding out their positions and sometimes it's the Quants testing positions to see if the MMs will respond to an intermediate offer or bid.

I often watch VERT to see if they have bids and offers near the trading as they are a quasi-quant fund and currently they do not. When they do, you can be sure the action is about to heat up. MAXM, PUMA, & LAFC are others to watch. Any of these can easily manipulate the stock even to point of mimicking formations to throw off the algo-traders. So when they are showing the leading bids or offers, it's a good sign to step back to neutral if you're a trader.

If your see ARCA, ETRF, VFIN, and NITE conducting most of the trades, then more than likely, the move is on the up and up.

Just something to always be on the lookout for.
