I am a small time watch collector and only have about 20 or so. The most I have paid is a bit over $5k for a Breitling. Most I own are old pieces. I have an old Hamilton from 1917 that runs like a top.

My favorite is an old Cuervo Y Sobrino from when they were made in Havana (before the revolution). If you can find one, buy it, they are incredible and gorgeous. They are still made but now in Switzerland. Today's designs are... interesting.
