I think leaving the price higher and continuing to offer a “discount” rather than just lowering the retail price to the discount price is a better practice.

In other words, leaving the price at $249 and offering the “discount” of $70 off makes people think they are getting a bargain subconsciously. If the regular list price was $179 with no visible discount I think you would have more people decide not to make a purchase.

Throughout my life I’ve heard so many people say “I’ll wait for it to go on sale” for a product they want. It triggers something inside the mind when you think you are getting something for a lower price then its retailed at.
