Sure ya did - not! HP numbers back then were nowhere near what was advertised - they quoted gross HP, which is a measurement taken with no air cleaner, no accessory drives, no fan, no exhaust, and at max ignition advance. For instance, the gross rating for the famous 1971 426 Hemi was 425 hp, but as fitted to a car it only generated 350 hp at the crank. Don't know how much it actually delivered to the rear wheels, but probably 25 hp less than that. Ok, had to know - it only had 315 hp at the wheels, a 10% loss from the crank - that's why EVs are so damn efficient, no drivetrain power losses.
