I’ll go on the record with a guess.

Apple will use liquidmetal only in the pro phones, as part of the mid frame, for the purpose of moving heat. It will join a steel frame making a partly composite frame in that area. Future years’ models may use bmg for the whole frame but not this year.

Apple will also use bmg in the Watch for a mid frame. Future years in the outer frame if all goes well.

Ford will use lqmt for their doorframe instep on a high trim new model.

A few CE companies appear to be using lqmt in small proportions in fringe phones. This won’t move the needle. Samsung will not use our product this year.

Right now no fancy external Apple parts will be lqmt — not hinges, not visible frames, not watch bodies. BUT, any of that could be coming if Li proves his company can produce and the material holds up.

Future models could easily use the metal in more and more parts in a ramp up of 5 years or more. Future uses could include producing the metal with textures, light refraction effects, and extraordinarily resilient high polish.

If Li produces, liquidmetal could gain consistently year over year for the next decade—all through licensing with few staff and little actual work being done.

End 2020: $0.22
End 2021: $0.56
End 2022: $0.68
End 2023: $1.01
