A disposable price of $1,700 is not terribly surprising either. Cells are very fussy about the plastic used and complex tubing and plastic disposables also need adhesives in places where RF welding is not suitable for making seals. Many plastics have the wrong surface geometry for cell growth, and both plastics and adhesives are notorious for leaching chemicals that are toxic to cells. That requires use of high priced materials and the disposable will not approach high volume production quantities, both of which translate to a very expensive chunk of plastic.
