zmanindc, I recently began taking a Vitamin D-3 supplement (5,000 iu's)
only one time a week and will increase that to twice a week in the Fall.
Most important to understand that D-3 will allow your body to absorb
more Calcium...to avoid the Calcium to go into soft tissue such as
arteries (which could then become calcified or result in hardenning
of the arteries) I also take Vitamin K-2 mk-7 which insures the
Calcium is deposited into bones and teeth, by taking it out of soft
tissue. The vast majority of people in the US are deficient in K-2.
Outside of Natto, (a disgusting Japanese fermented Soybean, and
Goose Liver Pate) there are no really good foods to insure we get
enough K-2. The supplement I take is for 800 iu's and I take it
once a week with my D-3 supplement. Good to hear that Dr. Oz made
such a recommendation on D-3. For older people especially strong
bones and good bone health is absolutely critical...K-2 may be
the most important thing you could ever take to help insure both
good Cardiovascular and Skeletal health! (Vascepa+D-3+k-2 would
be insanely effective!)
