The idea is to maximize your losses so when you have gains they do not look like gains. Usually it’s best to sell those most expensive shares first. I can’t imagine a reason to hold onto them. If you were in a position to make millions on cheaper shares, those very expensive shares being sold earlier will help be no different than cheaper shares sold now except for the huge tax credit you get... meaning it eliminates later tax dollars you’d owe. I mean, that is just if you have to sell shares now. Sell the shares with the biggest loss.

The shares you can buy today and that you bought at $10, are fungible except for that tax opportunity. If you expect a gain on other shares, it’s valuable.
