Dmceng4.....I suggest that you google how to trade covered call options.. there are many websites that give a primer on how to trade options....opening a position is the start of the option cycle... closing is the end of the option cycle...example:...say you wish to sell a covered call option on shares that you have in your long account...you would go to the options tables, select the strike price, and the month that the options expires, then enter: sell to open x contracts on coop...that is an opening position...now suppose that you want to close out the contract before the option expiration date , you would place the order as:... buy to close x (number of options) on coop.......now, suppose that you want to place a put option order...sell to open is a short position, which means that you will receive a premium to be assigned coop at a certain price during the duration of the contract..the buyer of that put that you sold to him means that he has the right to put that contract at any time during the option period...now suppose that you want out of that put position... you would place an order buy to close that position...it is not complicated to buy and sell options, but you must familiarize yourself by getting educated on the procedure... just google options trading, and they will give you the specifics on how to do them... good luck...
