As I have to replace Muni bonds being called and the loss of tax free 5-5.5% interest, I am looking in the preferred and convertible stocks sectors. Common stocks are also good, although it is hard to get a safe income in quantity there, with minimum risk. This method should last until rates start going up and then I will be looking for muni bonds and maybe even CD's, but they are taxable so it would have to be very high. About every 10-20 years this rotation had been necessary in income focused portfolios. In these portfolios there are about 30% stocks for growth.
