The Hidden Persuaders....

60+ plus yrs of experience using physiological techniques...When this was written those techniques were in their infancy and used to get you to buy one brand v the other....The fear was it would all creep into politics and more....

Now imagery, catch phrases, talking points, rhetoric, spin and messaging getting you to believe, buy, vote, be distracted, forget and in general to persuade and manipulate..and now we even have out and out propaganda....

Vance Packard's book The Hidden Persuaders, about media manipulation in the 1950s, sold more than a million copies. In The Hidden Persuaders , first published in 1957, Packard explored advertisers' use of consumer motivational research and other psychological techniques, including depth psychology and subliminal tactics, to manipulate expectations and induce desire for products, particularly in the American postwar era.

According to Packard, these needs are so strong that people are compelled to buy products merely to satisfy them. The book also explores the manipulative techniques of promoting politicians to the electorate. Additionally, the book questions the morality of using these techniques.
