Dan, take a look at the ketogenic diet or just go low carb. Essentially it’s a way to train the body to use fat as a primary source of fuel over sugar. If this is practiced concurrently with intermittent fasting 16/8, you will notice a significant reduction in fat stores especially around the belly . This tend to lower chronic inflammatory conditions leading to metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular complications and strokes. Taking high quality fats and fish oil supplementation also helps.
