Marjac what I could not understand about Roberts is this. Although he was first nominated to be an associate Justice he was not confirmed fast enough and then with the passing of Rehnquist, Roberts was then vaulted directly to be Chief Justice. As someone who knows very little about judicial affairs, I couldn’t understand why one of the SC justices who were already there for years wouldn’t have gotten the nod for Chief.
