Edinburgh Rugby fans to be able to have "tickets" sent to their mobiles phones for their Round 4 Heineken Cup game against Gloucester at Murrayfield next week.
Edinburgh Rugby are to pioneer a revolutionary ticketing scheme using mobile phones for their next Heineken Cup match at Murrayfield.

The scheme, the first of its kind in Scotland, will see fans who buy a seat for the game in the club's webstore being offered the option of a mobile ticket.

Those taking up the offer will be sent their tickets in the form of a two-dimensional barcode in an SMS message. The barcode provides event-specific details of where they will sit and the kick-off time.

Once at Murrayfield, the fan opens the mobile text message and shows it to an electronic reader that will scan the barcode and grant access.

The only other sports club in Britain to use the scheme are Southend United FC.

Edinburgh Rugby's commercial director, Ian Riddoch, said: "Southend's chairman, Geoff King, is highly innovative and recommended this to us.

"Mobile ticket technology will become increasing familiar as this type of service begins to be rolled out at sports venues, events and attractions throughout the UK. Our fans will be intrigued and excited by this technology and its speed of delivery.

"Within minutes of buying a ticket on the website or on their phone, the consumer will receive the SMS ticket direct to their mobile, resulting in a more personalised, direct and quicker entry to the stadium."

Mobile tickets, developed by specialist access provider APT SkiData and mobile content transaction specialist Smartmachine, can be ordered via www.edinburghrugby.com or by calling 0845 0943640.
