Exactly. In spain we've had just 71 new cases and not a single death in the last 24 hours (and only about 10 in the last 5 or 6 days). Everything is gradually reopening and we should be more or less back to normal in a couple of weeks. That's our reward for the sacrifice of a harsh 6-week lockdown. But that was supported by about 95% of the population as it was generally accepted as the right thing to do - people didn't feel like their rights were being taken away from them. Now i just hope we can keep this thing more or less contained until we have a vaccine.

Some people like to compare sweden to countries like spain and italy. But that's really comparing apples to oranges. You can only beat what is put in front of you, and what was put in front of sweden was an entirely different beast to that which was put in front of spain and italy. Spain/italy were hit much earlier and it's already known that there was no single patient 0, but instead multiple outbreaks. We won't know until everything has been studied more thoroughly but you can be sure spain and italy were hit with many more patient 0s than sweden. So what was put in front of sweden is more like what was put in front of their neighbours and that's why they are the most appropriate comparison. And as you say sweden has 10x the deaths as Norway...

so what have sweden got in return for their high death rate? Doesn't look like their economy has faired any better...how could it with such globally interlinked supply chains. Instead they've been left out of multilateral agreements to reopen borders...that will hurt their economy greater in the long run and the swedes can forget most international tourism in the coming months. I guess their restaurants and bars stayed open for 6 weeks...i'm sure that having the ability to go to a half full bar/restaurant with a rubbish atmosphere for several weeks was worth it for all the death/isolation/economic pain they are getting in return.
