We are not quite there yet, but it is possible to imagine a time where our understanding of specific areas of human biology is so advanced that the aetiology of various conditions are well understood.

A, possibly quite complex, set of biomarkers and their dynamic interdependencies might then be mapped out and monitored towards some ‘homeostasis” goal(s) as a new treatment is tested without the need for placebo or any other controls than those objective biomarkers.

If that is the dream, then the issue is “just” understanding how far away from that level of advancement medical science still is.

Anavex and others are hard at work towards that kind of goal in very small steps looking at very small subsystems of human biology using weeks or months between sampling points and slowish analysis rather than dynamic real-time monitoring.

A lot to understand to know that is not where Anavex are yet. Until then the objective well understood science behind how A2-73 works is not there and controls are needed to learn more about whether Anavex are on the right path and by how much.
