The problem in having an intelligent discussion about EPA (eicosapentenoic acid) and fish oil is the taxonomy of words. We all on this board agree that while EPA is a COMPONENT of Fish oil (along with DHA etc..), just referring to something as EPA does little to describe the vast biological difference between free EPA, Icsoapent Ethyl ester, omega 3 carboxylic acids, etc..What matters is not only the stability but the oxidative state of these EPA formulations and their bio-absorption--it makes a huge difference to the biological membrane activity of the EPA and its anti-atherogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative vascular and endothelial protective functions. . Even Epadel(Jelis, japan ) has subtle but differing effects to Vascepa even though they are written chemically as a formula similarly. https://lipidworld.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12944-017-0415-8
The purification extraction and handling are every bit as important as the actual chemical structure.
