The crime was not shorting. The crime was the same as here, selling worthless securities. Selling worthless mortgages, claiming they were not, and taking the other side. The short was not the crime. All the claims of abusive shorting and naked shorting, like this one, are wrong. It's hard to believe anyone does not remember and understand this case. It is not complicated. Same as the FFGO fraud. Easy to understand.
