Small town Corruption,,, "Good Ol Boys" in power...

Back in 17, A grandfather raising his grandson had his life ruined along with a young police officer who was paralyzed...

Small town mayor, county commissioner's son, local bail bondsman, young police officer in the mayor's town and another were out in the country on a weekend in a gator like vehical,,,Drinking booze and shooting guns, all with a weapons, running around being dumbasses...

Well they were around a grandfather's home acting like idiots with guns..The grandfather confronted them..Common sense did not prevail and the Grandfather called the cops...that was just after noon.

As the story goes, sheriffs showed up, nothing happened, except the mayor's group was "offened"...As the day continued they really started to harass, emboldened too I imagine..day turned to night and around 11:00 that evening with grandpa sitting on the front porch with his 22, the Good Ol Boys started up the driveway screaming,,,Grandpa opened up..The only one that was hurt was the young officer hit in the neck and is now paralyzed from the neck down..

Police came, the Grandfather arrested and charged with attempted murder, either it was a no bail situation or he couldn't make bail, his grandson put into the system.....

Well the story stunk, not much stays a secret in small towns, the Grandfather was known for minding his own business and raising his grandson, word also gets out that the young officer had repeatedly told his group that this it was all wrong...

Somehow it took 9mo to make it to the Grand Jury, the Grandfather in jail, the boy gone, the young officer fought for his life and his paralysis was permanent, Many fund raisers as you can imagine..but court day came, The community, well, they expected the worse, the old guy would take the fall..

Many of us, especially myself wondered if we wouldn't do the same thing as he did............

Grand Jury day...Justice prevailed here, the jury would not indict the grandfather, and did indict the mayor and 3 of the others for giving false information, conspiracy and obstructing. The prosecutor was pissed, too bad..

I had known Travis from mayor's court and my boy, Seemed like the Quintessential small town mayor, too easy on most till they came before him one too many times,,,I couldn't help but wonder how, if a group of young men had been drinking and shooting guns, how he would chastise them and have little understanding if any.

I also wondered if something like that could happen to me and my grandsons...

Another case of idiots with guns and a tragic outcome hits the news..Years ago when I was young there would be little doubt of the outcome. But now, once word gets out, just like here, the chances for the Good Ol Boys system covering up is steadily coming to an end.
